About Women in Tech and Entrepreneurship Summit

The Women in Tech and Entrepreneurship Summit is designed to bring together inspiring female leaders and innovators across Iraq to explore opportunities for women in technology and entrepreneurship in the region. Through inspirational keynotes, panel discussions on technology and entrepreneurship, and skills and career development workshops, this event series provides all the content and networking opportunities for females to flourish in the tech and startup sectors in Iraq.

11am-12:30pm: Panel Discussion

Key topics the panel will discuss include the digital gender gap, opportunities and challenges in the tech and startup sectors in Iraq and the importance of role models to inspire more women to enter the world of technology and entrepreneurship. Panelists include:

  • Safa Salwan, Founder of Women Techmakers Baghdad
  • Ravan Al-Taie, Founder of The Book Cafe Erbil
  • Faten Alweli, Founder of Escape the Room Baghdad
  • Ava Nadir, Head of Zain Kurdistan Marketing Communication and PR Department
  • Additional speaker TBC

There will also be an opportunity to join one of two workshops to learn new skills related to programming and entrepreneurship:

1:30-3:30pm: Workshop 1 - Intro to Coding: Create an Android App

Create your first Android application!

During our introductory workshop, you'll explore the basics of the Java programming language and XML. By writing your own lines of code, you’ll cover key coding terms and principles and develop a simple Android application

Prerequisites & Preparation
No previous programming experience is required. A laptop is required in order to participate in this workshop

1:30-3:30pm: Workshop 2- Launching your Startup

Do you have an idea for a business or project? Learn how to start it up!

During this introductory entrepreneurship workshop, you will interview customers, brainstorm innovative solutions, and develop a prototype of a potential business idea, all during the two hours. You will also be introduced to the Business Model Canvas and learn how to develop a testable business model.
