Meet the Team: Lavin

This is the third post in our "Meet the Team" series where we will introduce you to our Five One Labs team members. This week, you'll meet our intern Lavin, who was also a member of the Five One Labs pilot cohort in Suleimani.

Q: How did you become involved with Five One Labs? Why were you interested when you found out about it?

Lavin: One of my professors, Dr Hemin Latif, sent me the link to the application for the four-week Five One pilot. I had started some work on the business idea that I had, but I was lost and did not know how to move forward. When I read the description of the Five One course, I instantly applied because it was exactly what I needed at the time.

Q: And what is it that you do as a summer intern right now? How do you add to the team?

Lavin: I’m working in Suleimani and trying to find mentors and entrepreneurs that have succeeded from their start up businesses. I am also helping out with Five One social media content.  My official position is Digital Marketing & Communications Intern.

Q: Has being a part of the project been fun? What have you enjoyed most? Has it been difficult as well or easy for you?

Lavin: This internship is very different from what I am used to. It is not related to IT and coding at all, which is what I have been doing for the past three years. Also, it is very comfortable, in terms of the way I work with the team - and the fact that I don’t have to go to an office. I like that very much.

Q: And what do you most hope to get out of your role in the program? What are you most looking forward to as part of the team?

Lavin: I am looking to learning and finding different ways that I can make my working life efficient, especially without office access. Although it can be a positive thing, not seeing your team physically can be a bit difficult in terms of communication.  So, I am hoping that I can learn the ways I can have good level of communication with my co-workers, without having to see them physically.

Q: What would you most like to tell people reading this website, and people interested in joining or supporting our team?

Lavin: For those reading this post or wanting to support Five One Labs, please know that we as young people from the Kurdistan region don’t have a lot of chances like this. We are not viewed as positively as this often, so please help Five One Labs - to help young talented Kurds.
