Startup Spotlight: Hamno Peanut Butter

Hamno, the first peanut butter factory in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, supplied by the power of local resources, specifically locally farmed peanuts, introduced the first locally produced peanut butter to the market in Kurdistan. The factory offers three delectable flavors: classic peanut butter, chocolate, and honey peanut butter.

Zhiar, the Founder of Hamno, noticed the process of exporting peanut butter at a low cost and then re-importing the processed peanut for a higher price due to the lack of a factory and manufacturing line. And this birthed the idea of Hamno, a manufacturing line to obtain peanuts, process them, and turn them into peanut butter.

“The Entrepreneurship for Universities program, held by Five One Labs, played an important role in the development of our business.”

The business encountered initial roadblocks as the routine of obtaining necessary licenses took a long time, also the team being fresh graduates made the financing of the business more challenging. But Zhiar was determined to launch Hamno and introduce its products to the market of Kurdistan and Iraq.

“Looking ahead, our objective is expanding our product line across all of Kurdistan and Iraq. Furthermore, we are working on introducing a new product: high protein peanut butter. This new product is inspired by the high demand from the athletic community, providing them with an affordable solution to meet their protein needs.”
