Community Stories: Bina’s Progress

During our first Tech Incubator in late 2019, Bina was one of those ideas that easily stood out for being innovative, problem-solving, and utilizing tech for services that up until that point, was not dependent on technology.

Ranoo Hiwa, Bina’s founder is an engineer who graduated from University of Sulaumani in 2012 and after her experience in the field of hiring staff and workers, she came with the idea of an application that makes this process easier for users and gives workers and teams a platform to get new projects!

We reached out to Ranoo to see how far Bina have gone in the past year and how 2020 been affecting her startup.

What is Bina and as of now, what does it do ?

  • Helping skilled workers find work.

  • Helping engineers and construction firms find work opportunities and skilled workers

  • Increasing the quality of construction work through customer feedback and rating.

  • Showing customers the market price of the materials and workmanship

  • let the customers estimate the cost of their project

From an idea starting at our first tech incubator, where is Bina now? What growth has Bina seen?
Bina was launched on September 13, 2020, in all Kurdistan, professionals who are working in the construction field are joining Bina daily, we have over 2,000 professionals and the number is increasing daily!
Despite there is not any advertisement for the hiring side, but Bina managed to create over 100 job opportunities for their professionals.

2020 was a challenging year, how did it affect Bina's progress? How did you deal with the ups and downs of it?
Due to Covid-19, 2020 was a very challenging year not just for Bina but also for every business especially startups, we planned to launch Bina at the end of March 2020 but unfortunately, we were not able to launch it until mid of September 2020 which caused delaying in our plans.

What advice do you have for people with a business idea?
If you want to make improvements in your country and you see a problem and you wish it to be solved, you should start solving it by yourself. There is nothing more exciting than making improvements in the field that you love.

I motivate anyone who has a simple business idea, they should start working on it and make it real to be beneficial to anyone in our country. The journey of developing your idea into a real business is very joyful especially when you start making the pieces and operating it by yourself!

What features are coming from Bina in 2021?

Bina is still under development and improvement to make it easier for our users that will be released in March 2021 to help professionals in the construction field to get connected to their customers easily.
